James Megar, LPC, Ed.D James Megar is a Licensed Professional Counselor and LPC Supervisor. He obtained his Doctor in Education from Texas A & M and completed his internship at the Southwest Family Institute in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Megar has been a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy since 1991. In 1983 he completed the Associate Fellowship Practicum at the Institute for Rational Emotive Therapy, New York, New York. Dr. Megar’s clinical interests include: Family Systems therapies; Cognitive Behavioral treatments for anxiety; and Stress Debriefing. He joined the Florence Office when it opened in 2002.
Carol Shaw, LPC Carol Shaw is a graduate of the University of North Alabama with her Master in Community Counseling, and she is certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Carol joined the Florence office of Alabama Psychiatric Services in the fall of 2002. Her counseling services include: individual, group, family and couples therapy. She facilitates the Florence Chemical Dependency and Aftercare Programs. Carol also facilitates the Mental Health Support group. She is a published author of the book Spirituality 101, and is in the process of publishing her next book entitled Free Counseling. Carol is also an artist exhibiting her works in local art galleries.
