Brenda Chynoweth, LPC
Brenda Chynoweth is a Licensed Professional Counselor who primarily works with children and adolescents.  She joined Alabama Psychiatric Services, PC in 2003.  Brenda received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama and her Master in Clinical Psychology from Alabama A & M University.  Areas of concentration include depression, anxiety disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, family therapy, self esteem, interpersonal relationships, and parenting skills.  Treatment approaches include cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychodynamic, and behavior modification.

Amelia M. Cohen, M.S., LPC
Amelia is a Licensed Personal Counselor, and has been with Alabama Psychiatric Services since 2001. She specializes in therapeutic services for adults in the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Amelia received her bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb University in 1990 and her master’s degree from Alabama A & M University in 1992. In addition to her experience, Amelia served on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association of Madison County from 2003-2007.

Sharon Cowan, LCSW, MAC
Sharon Cowan is a nationally certified Master's level Addiction Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 12+ years of experience working in the addiction treatment field.  She has been employed with APS since October 2001, and is one of the original therapists hired to work in the Madison/Huntsville Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) when it opened in 2001.  Sharon has been active in national and state professional organizations in the field of social work and addictions treatment, i.e., NAADAC, AADAA, and NASW. She has a personal and professional interest in learning the latest research information on substance abuse/addiction treatments, and incorporating the research findings in her plan of care for clients referred to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for treatment.

Sharon has taken an active interest in preparing and utilizing PowerPoint presentations in treatment education groups for both individuals and family members.  She conducts family education groups that are part of the adult chemical dependency treatment program for both the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) & IOP.  Sharon is also very active in local 12-step programs, and she attends events in which she addresses issues related to substance abuse/addictions treatment options at the physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

Sundee S. Diviney, LPC
Sundee S. Diviney received her Masters Degree from Troy University in Counseling and Human Development in 1995. She has held a professional counselor license in Idaho, Utah, Virginia and Alabama. As a professional counselor, Sundee has provided experience in a variety of human issues: substance abuse, addictions, sexual abuse, grief and loss, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, marriage, family, blended family, adolescent behaviors, parenting skills, anxiety, anger management, family and divorce recovery, ADHD, and pornography.

Kelly S. Fisher, LPC
Kelly S. Fisher is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents. She received her Master in Clinical Psychology from Alabama A&M University and her Bachelor in Psychology from The University of Alabama. Kelly’s particular areas of interest include trauma counseling, play therapy, and behavioral problems in children and adolescents. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy, which is a specialized treatment used to primarily alleviate post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety symptoms in patients. She currently is involved in individual, group, and parent/family psychotherapy at APS utilizing a primarily cognitive-behavioral approach.

Jeanette H. Muth, M.S., LPC, NCC
Jeanette H. Muth is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor with over 13 years of experience. She has been with Alabama Psychiatric Services for six years, and provides individual, marital, family and group therapy.

Jeanette has experience at all levels of care including; inpatient, partial hospitalization, residential and outpatient. She primarily works with the adult population, but has experience working with children and adolescents. She is a member of the American and Alabama Counseling Associations, as well as the American and Alabama Mental Health Counseling Associations.

Jim Parker, LCSW
Jim Parker is a Licensed Certified Social Worker and has been working as an outpatient therapist in the Alabama Psychiatric Services Madison office since March of 2006.  Jim spent the first 25 years of his career working as a social worker with the Alabama Department of Human Resources which enabled him to work in variety of settings. He has had the opportunity to gain extensive experience in therapy by working in areas such as DHR as well as an inpatient psychiatric setting. 

Susan W. Ratliff, LPC
Susan W. Ratliff is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has worked with children and adolescents since 1997.  She worked for the Madison County School System for 14 years as a counselor, then with an inpatient psychiatric facility for two years as the Clinical Coordinator of the Group Home for Boys. She currently is working at the Alabama Psychiatric Services office in Madison, Alabama as an adolescent therapist in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).  Susan graduated from Alabama A & M University in 1995 with a Master in Clinical Psychology and has held an LPC since 1998.  She has extensively worked with DHR on a consult basis; primarily working with drug and alcohol abuse and the family court system.  Also, Susan has worked with a Children’s Advocacy Center on a consult basis for the past 10 years.

James L. Taylor, M.S., LPC
James Taylor is a Licensed Professional Counselor who primarily works with children and adolescents. He joined Alabama Psychiatric Services, PC in 2008. James received his bachelor degree from Abilene Christian University in 2000 and a Master in Counseling Psychology from Alabama A&M University in 2005. Areas of interest include ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, adolescent sex offender treatment. Treatment approaches include cognitive behavior therapy, family therapy, and behavior modification.

Melissa Vann, LPC
Melissa Vann is a Licensed Professional Counselor, who holds a Master in Counseling Psychology.  Melissa is currently working as a therapist in the Madison office of Alabama Psychiatric Services.  Her previous experience includes 10 years working with the National Children’s Advocacy Center, two of those years spent counseling children and adolescents who had experienced sexual abuse.  Other counseling experience includes two years at a community counseling agency providing counseling to adults and children.
