Richard N. Akins, M.D., M.B.A.
Dr. Akins is currently the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of APS. He is a Board Certified psychiatrist who joined APS in 1990 after completion of his psychiatric residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed medical school with an M.D. degree in 1986 from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport.

Dr. Akins has served in a number of capacities while employed with APS. He has been a full time clinical psychiatrist providing inpatient, outpatient and partial hospitalization services to the general adult population. While continuing in his clinical duties, Dr. Akins has served in administrative roles as well. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of APS since 1992. He became Vice-President in 1995, and subsequently served as Assistant Medical Director prior to becoming Medical Director in 2003. Dr. Akins obtained his Master of Business Administration from Auburn University in 2002. Dr. Akins was named CEO by the Board of Directors in 2004.

Kerry L.M. Cleary, M.D.
Dr. Kerry Cleary is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who works at the Acton Road office of Alabama Psychiatric Services. She did her undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame and graduated with honors from the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in 1991. Dr. Cleary completed her General Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Fellowship Training at Eisenhower Army Medical Center and the Medical College of Georgia in 1996. She was an active duty Army officer/psychiatrist from 1991-2000 prior to joining Alabama Psychiatric Services.

Nirmala R. Jetty, M.D.
Dr. Nirmala Reddy Jetty joined Alabama Psychiatric Services Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division in May of 2009. Dr. Jetty completed medical school at Mysore in India, before coming to the United States. She completed her General Psychiatry Residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Jetty’s compassion and dream of helping children led her to complete a fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2008 in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Jetty believes in team approach, and also the bio-psycho-social model in treating a patient. Her particular fields of interest and experience includes: mood disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, autism spectrum disorders and of course ADHD among children.

Annie A. Keriotis, M.D.
Dr. Annie A. Keriotis received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and was recipient of a scholarship from the United States Navy. She completed her general medical internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia and served as a General Medical Officer with the United States Navy for 3 years in Norfolk, Virginia. After finishing her tour with the US Navy, she completed her General Psychiatry Residency and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina where she also served as Chief Resident of the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Keriotis is board certified in both adult and child and adolescent psychiatry. She has been employed with Alabama Psychiatric Services since 2000.

Marc W. Kundler, M.D.
Marc W. Kundler, M.D. is board certified in psychiatry, and has extra specialty training in electroconvulsive therapy. Dr. Kundler graduated with Honors from the University of Louisville with a bachelor in Biology and Psychology. He then attended and completed Medical School at St. George's University School of Medicine before completing his psychiatric residency at New York University School of Medicine in New York City. At New York University, Dr. Kundler was named Chief Resident and awarded induction into the prestigious Bellevue Psychiatric Society.

Dr. Kundler joined Alabama Psychiatric Services in 2003. He strongly believes in treating his patients with the least amount of medication necessary, and arriving at diagnoses in a stepwise, logical and conservative manner. He enjoys numerous activities with his family including coaching his four children in several sports.

Joe Llinas, M.D.
Dr. Joe Llinas received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He trained in general psychiatry, including one year as Chief Resident, at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. He completed his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Llinas has been with Alabama Psychiatric Services, Inc. since 2001. He is bilingual in English and Spanish, and is married and the father of five children.

Godehard Oepen, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.P.A.
Dr. Godehard Oepen was born and raised in West-Germany. He studied Medicine in Marburg, Fribourg/Switzerland, and Freiburg. After his term in the military, he completed a Residency Training in Neurology, obtained a PH.D. degree in Clinical Neurophysiology, and a second Residency Training in Psychiatry at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany, where he then served as Senior Clinician and Associate Professor.

In 1989, Dr. Oepen continued his research and clinical activities in Boston at Harvard University, where he under went another required residency training in American Psychiatry at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School (HMS), including a rotation in Behavioral Neurology at Beth Israel Hospital, HMS.

His more than 110 articles, book chapters and three edited books cover a wide range of topics, from neuropsychiatric illness (Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, MS, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder) to Borderline Personality Disorder, Psychopharmacology, and Philosophical Issues in Psychiatry.

After four years at the Bedford VA Hospital and two years as Medical Director of the Harvard North Shore Geriatric Psychiatry Program in Salem/MA, Dr. Oepen joined Alabama Psychiatric Services in 1999 and is now Assistant Medical Director for Clinical Services and Education at APS, coordinating APS’ CME Program and treatment quality issues, resulting in the publication of APS outcome data in two posters and two peer-reviewed articles.

John Langlow, III, M.D., M.B.A
Dr. Langlow graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and completed his psychiatry residency at UAB. He has continuously been in private practice since completing his residency in 1990. Dr. Langlow is a member of several professional organizations, and has hospital privileges at many hospitals in the Birmingham area. Currently, he sees patients of both the mental health and chemical dependency partial hospital programs in Birmingham, as well as his busy outpatient practice. Dr. Langlow treats all types of psychiatric needs, and believes in patient-centered treatment. He likes to include families in the treatment process when appropriate.
